Don't mind this picture, I'm placing it here because I need it as an avatar on a website - and there's nowhere else for me to put it so I can use it!

Sorry about the fuzziness - here's my sister, knitting her very first item - a poncho! It's Yarn Harlot's pattern (see the sidebar), in a very nice soft and thick bouclé. The colour is called "blueberry", and it's got a nice bluey-greyey-purpley variation in it. She's already had to rip it back once, through about 10 rows, which for her was almost four hours of work. Poor kid! She realised though that between having her increases wandering all over and having flipped over her needles so she was working back across the row and thus had 4 rows of purling on the front...it needed to be done.

Here's Anton and I standing in front of the igloo. I am wearing: brand-new longjohns and wool socks, cords, snowpants, sorels, undershirt, fleece hoodie, scarf, parka, ear covers (fleece things that slip on your ears), hat, and two pairs of mitts. Like I said, -34C. The igloo is quite big this year, it is almost always tall enough to stand in but this year since we have at least 60cm on the ground, the blocks are all about 2 feet thick. For reference, I am 132 cm, which is about 5' 3.5" .

A Happy Chrismahanukwanzakuh to all!

Well, Christmas has come and gone. My family built our traditional igloo again this year on Christmas day. The temperature outside? -34C. (-29.2F). However, hopefully this year it will last a little longer, seeing as it's this cold out. Last year it was +6C on Boxing Day, so our igloo collapsed. That was the first year we lost the igloo! I have pictues, I will post them soon.

I didn't get any knitting stuff for Christmas, but people loved the stuff I gave, like the fuzzy feet and scarves. The french ticklers went over well too ;) . I will be going to Chapters once I get back to the city and I'm going to pick up Folk Mittens and Folk Socks, so that I can maybe learn Fair Isle. I also want to make my cousin navy mitts with a grey police shield on the back but I have NO idea how to do that without a pattern.

Here are the three scarves I've knit so far, the one on the left is black eyelash with red yarn (very sexy and lingerie like), the middle one is blue "Fun Fur" by Lion's Brand, and it looks more like I skinned Grover than knit a scarf. The last one is for me and it's a strand of Cascade (200 I think?) in a pale purple, with a strand of Red Heart's "Foxy" in varigated purple, and a strand of eyelash in "Kiss". It is thick and very very soft. Only problem is it rolls up on the sides. Grrrrrrrrrr

Scarves and French Ticklers

Here's some Christmas goodies. You can see the scarves at the top of the pic. The little things at the bottom are "French Ticklers" - from knitty.com under the "Sex and the Knitty issue - check the archives. You can see what they're for there ;). I made them to give to my friends, along with the scarves.
